he concrete and brick Highland Crest building was originally a convent for a missionary order, “The White Sisters” of Africa, who came to Antigonish to study at St. Francis Xavier University and the Coady Institute. In the 1960's and 1970's, as vocations to the religious life dwindled, the order moved out of Nova Scotia and the building was used to house StFX students for a time. In 1981, it was aquired by High-Crest Enterprises and after extensive renovations was licensed by the Department of Community Services as a 40 bed Residental Care Facility. The first residents were admitted on August 31, 1981.

Our fee includes many services and amenities, including 3 nutritious meals per day, daily housekeeping and laundry services, 24 hour security, and numerous activities planned for your enjoyment. As well, we will do our best to meet any requests you might have.

Naturally, you are more concerned now about your health than you were a few years ago. And, too, with the passage of time, your medical needs have changed. Since we on the staff at Highland Crest Home want you to enjoy as worry-free a lifestyle as possible, we have provided the following features to address your special healthcare needs:
24 hour a day staffing by personal care workers
a Registered Nurse on staff, as well as a House Physician, if requested.
on-staff Dietician to help plan meals and answer questions about special dietary requirements.
a V.O.N. foot-care clinic is available for a small fee
local, accompanied transportation can be provided to your physicians appointment for an additional charge
Our staff are experienced, professional, and sensitive to your needs. If you should require additional or special assistance we can provide for these needs.
Resident Services & Amenities
At Highland Crest Home, we want you to feel both comfortable and secure. Our location is central to downtown shops, businesses, and services. If you own a vehicle, there is ample parking available. The building and certain rooms are wheel-chair accessible, and there is an elevator for your convenience. If you plan to have family or guests visit, we can assist you with their accommodations.
Other services and amenities include:
a large, spacious multi-purpose room for a variety of activities- from dancing to bingo to hosting special events. All events are planned by the recreation coordinator.
a fully equipped laundry with a seamstress on staff
an on-site hairdresser, or barber, is available for a small fee
mail delivery
scheduled activities program
local transportation provided in our company vehicle, for an additional charge
on-site maintenance staff
complete building security and fire alarm systems, including a sprinkler system throughout the facility.
Catholic Mass is celebrated every Sunday and Wednesday
the United Minister visits monthly
Your Living Area
Your room is furnished both practically and tastefully, and is ready for you to move in. If you choose to bring furnishings with you, we will be more than happy to assist you with the move.
